Stupor Bowl XII

The myspace page just went up!

Stupor Bowl XII is the country's longest running alleycat held every year in Minneapolis, MN!
This race invites HUNDREDS of participants from all over the world!
Thrown by local messengers, its always been about going fast and drinking A LOT of beer (not really my thing... haha).
The courses are long and the weather just as harsh... 25 degrees last year and -30 the year before that!

I've heard so many crazy stories about this race and how much FUN it is!
Our friend Erik who is a bike tech over at ATX Bikes just moved here from MN and is going back for this race!
Me and a couple of people might join him on this one!

Check out the Bike Jerks blog for more info and updates!

Take care,

Beautiful

Lug work!
Saw this over at the Urban Velo blog
Talk about flamboyant! But still elegant at the same time!
LOVE IT!

Made by Columbine Cycle Works , the flowers were modeled after the high alpine flower.
These guys won the "best lugged frame" category at the 2006 NAHBS, and rightfully so!

MONSTER TRACK X!!!

Yes! This the news I've been waiting for!
The infamous Monster Track race in New York is coming back after a brief hiatus due to some unfortunate news in alleycat racing last year in Chicago.
Actually on a side note, NY did have a race... just for the locals though. hah!

For those of you who aren't familiar with this race here is a brief rundown of the format:
Every year NY has a race during the spring time where NO brakes are allowed!
This means you either have to ride a fixed gear OR "Ted Shred" it through traffic.
This race always invited racers from all over the world; Europe to Japan and every country in between!

Check out Monster Track VIII's teaser video here

A couple of my friends around Texas and I are saving up to race this year!
If you're interested in joining just hit us up!

Take care everyone!
And stay warm!

Awesome!

Saw this over at Tracko:

At first I thought it was just another photo of a person on a track bike in Cali or NY.
But this was taken in 1960!
Weird, huh?!
I always get a kick out of seeing how everything comes around full circle.
Are we just that unoriginal?! haha

Take care,

Info:
Love Stinks Alleycat
Feb. 15th (thats a Sunday!)
Registration is at 4pm
Race at 4:30 pm
Entry fee: Well, not really an entry as it is a donation to help charitable organizations around Austin...
Its going to be TWO canned foods (which will be donated to the City of Austin Food Bank) and $5 (which will be donated IN CASH to Yellow Bike Project)
What you need: You'll need your bag or something to carry luggage, an iron stomach, a bike and a have fun, POSI attitude!
Come on, its a race but you gotta have fun!!!
Oh, and helmets are STRONGLY encouraged... skid lids make you look cool. I mean, look at me!

I'm still working out the prizes (if everything goes as planned, it'll be along the lines of custom luggage and something gold) and sponsors. But any new info will be posted here!

Usually I don't give this much notice for races (usually its week of haha) but I want this to have a good turn out, not for me but so we can raise more food and money.
So ask off of work NOW!

If you guys have any questions or want any more info please contact me at: chris_topherlee@yahoo.com

Also, I know this is on a "fixed gear" blog but as far as races go, I HATE exclusive races, thus this one is OPEN TO ALL BIKES!!!
I want to see a unicycle win this!!!

Take care everyone!

Fabulous Friday!!!

So Fabulous Friday was a BLAST!!!
It was the best Fab Fri race to date!
We all had a great time and there were lots of new faces!

For those of you that couldn't make it, here are some details of the race:
It was a ghettodrome style race.  In each heat, there were four racers.  The top two racers from each heat got to advance to the next stage(basically it was tournament style).

I got to advance to the next stage (which surprised me because I absolutely suck at sprints! haha)... but like always there were plenty of fast people ahead of me!

Also, I decided to bring my camera out for this race.
Unfortunately, I lacked foresight and didn't bring any sort of lighting system or external flash with me.
I had to make due with a crappy built in flash and the incredibly low lighting that the street lights gave off.
But its all good, here are some of the pictures from the race and side events:

Artsy fartsy photo 1.
Curtis showing some of us how its done.

Brian "Brilife" Miller BACK FROM THE DEAD!

Fred decided to man up and race.

I can't wait to see the video of the race!!!

Artsy fartsy photo 2
This was at the starting line for one of the heats.

4th place: Evan!

3rd place: Joe!

2nd place: Will Wolfe!

Ladies and gentlemen... the winner of the race, the custom bag, the crown, $80 cash and of course Fab Fri: Cloyd!

Ahlee's new roadie! Just looking at it makes me want pasta!

Ben's Bomber Pro!

Joe killing it at bike limbo!

Andrew gettin' LOW!

And Joe winning Bike Limbo!!!

Footdown was a GREAT time like always!

Again, I apologize for some crappy photos... I promise there will be adequate lighting next time!

Be sure to look out for the next Fabulous Friday in January!!!

Take care everyone!
