5th and Nueces Collision
I don't know too many details. I was leaving work and saw all this. There was a truck with a smashed windshield and a bike demolished in the middle of the road. The cyclist was nowhere to be found so I can only assume he/she was taken to the hospital.
If anyone has any details please let us know.
You'll be in our thoughts....whoever you are.

third coast fixed
from elliot
www.ThirdCoastFixed.com will be up and ready tomorrow with admin logins for everyone involved. It's a collective of riding, tricks, bikes, food, all things Texan! I would like at least a post a week from all cities and some pictures, etc. All the posting should be open source. We are including links to Texas made bike stuff, feetbelts, bags, hats, bike shops, etc. By we I mean you all. I love you guys!
already! we have been talking about making a Texas fixed blog since last fall. we have had impromptu meetings after out of town alleycats with our friends from all over the state and i am proud to say that we are finally getting it off the ground. this collective blog is going to be the first of it's kind anywhere, and it is going to showcase us, Texas, and all of the things that happen here that do not happen anywhere else.
i know it goes without saying, but it bears repeating: Texas has the most dynamic and unified fixed gear community anywhere, and it is time that we prove that to everyone. part of why the Fast Folks/Death Pedal party was such a success yesterday is because we had so many people show up from out of town. riders from dallas, denton, houston, san marcos, college station, and austin were all representing their hometowns and our state by showing up and participating in the official opening of the first track boutique in Texas; we were all celebrating natalie's success with the shop, eric's success with his recent sponsorship (represent!), kareem's success with the Death Pedal video, and our bad-ass Central Texas community!
pictures will be up soon, but they will not be on this site.

TOMORROW IS BIKE TO WORK DAY!!!!!
The Austin Cycling Association is coordinating, with the help of plenty of local sponsors, free breakfast for those who take up their steed and ride to work tomorrow. If you work as a labourer, dishwasher, therapist, mechanic, prostitute, student, etc., take your bike out and get some FREE breakfast. There are spots all over town, check out the map of where to get the grub, and check the ACA calendar for more info and future events.

side saddle alleycat! this saturday!
check out that sweet sponsor list! thats FIVE bag sponsors!
seriously, ladies, this is going to be so much fun! annie has organized one of the best races i have ever seen and i am mad jellin' that i can't participate. this event is organized so that you ladies can have fun and make friends without all the macho dudes intimidating you, so there is no excuse not to show up and participate!
it ends at eastwoods park off of dean keaton, so fellas, come by for sides!

super sick edit filmed by oskar, who also did a montage of his spring break in houston/austin which includes some crazy partying that we all participated in.
puckett is definitely onto some next level shit, and he's only been riding fixed since last fall so i can't wait to see what comes next!
and elliot's cameo is the shit!

21st street coop
great article in the daily texan this week about will wolfe's not so little side project, the newly expanded 21st street coop bike shop. this man is busy! besides being the first guy to win TWO fab fridays to date, a upperclassmen in the geo school at ut, and an avid mountain, road, and cyclocross racer, this guy spent 40-60 hours a week this last month building this place from the ground up!
seriously, this guy makes us all look bad! get out there and ride some this month, and maybe you'll have a chance to take the fab friday bag from him!
robster craw!
college station was this:
from l to r, clockwise:
john rensho from the atx, yours truly on the craps, justin from sm (bootleg 3 y'all!), jesse gordon from college station who moved here today, some kid, ben w from sm, and aj from college station. texas unite! third coast risin!
well, college station was a lot of things, but craps was a big part of it. so was jesse and i taking everyone's dollars and buying ourselves lunch the next day.
thanks for the pic, z-ro.

the REAL eye in the sky edit!
the last one was a leak, but enjoyable anyway!
Red Bull Eye in the Sky from Ivan Mennim on Vimeo.
rockin' the marked men! denton represent!
i thought the original edit had some more death defying dodges, and from an anthropological standpoint the longer edit shows more of the riders and terrain, making it longer but more enjoyable if you are into that sort of thing.
if anything, this edit makes rainier look even faster, and mike martin even more insane!

the five day forecast
looks wet and wild in austin. which is awesome because of this email from brian davies:
First, you need to take a look at this:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/tenday/78705?from=36hr_fcst10DayLink_business
Now, with that said - you will understand why I'm throwing not one but 2 races this week! Maybe even one next week too, since it just changed so it's raining through next Wednesday (stopped at Tuesday an hour ago...).
Here's the deets:
Name: Cross Club #10 aka The Noah's Ark Race
Date: 4/30/2009 (That's this Thursday!)
Time: 8 pm
Start/finish: Lamar Ped Bridge
Distance: In the 10-18 mile range
Cost: $5
Prizes: Yes
Slop: God, I hope so.
Advice for homework: Know the Shoal Creek trail. KNOW IT. I'm done holding hands, my friends. Time to step it up.
Added Bonus: A copy of Cyclocross Magazine to the first 20 attendees - spectators and racers.
it'll be nice on friday, so check this out:
and depending on which city you are in, the extended forecast says saturday will be a nice day for this:
and if you are in college station, it might still be a bit rainy for this (better map at the race):
and when john rensho and i get back in town on sunday, time for tacos, more rain, and this:
Name: Cross Club #11 aka The first one with barriers
Date: 5/3/2009 (That's this Sunday)
Time: 6 pm
Start/finish: Undisclosed at this time - likely NOT at the ped bridge
Distance: Probably "sprint" distance. That does not mean drag racing, just probably short and vicious.
Cost: $5
Prizes: Probably so.
Slop: Should be a total nightmare if it really T-Storms for the rest of the week. At least it will be warm-ish. hehe
Advice: Get a lot of sleep and carb up. I'm throwing a wrench in the works this time. It's time to see what everyone's really got.
that's right, folks. five races this week between thursday to sunday. various weather patterns lend themselves to various types of races and rest assured, you will see me at every single one (besides the drungo's race, cuz i will be in college station.)
have a fun time! be safe! holla!

Tom's Slider from aaron erwich on Vimeo.
on this vid, the come up says:
I’m only posting this to draw attention to the fact that I was right and the slider clip is becoming a trend. An annoying, obnoxious, stupid, trend.
seen on the come up, who also clowned torey from nyc this last week. just goes to show that the bmx scene has enough hate for one type of bike rider. and that blowing out sidewalls is cool.
WINE, Beer, BBQ, Bikes
Hokayso, once you do the Real Ale Ride, the next weekend (June 6th) you gotta get back on your horse and do the Atlas Ride with the Texas 4000 riders.
The Atlas ride goes from Cedar Park to Lampasas, and you can do either the 50 or 70 mi ride, both end at the same place: Texas Legato Winery & Vineyard for wine tasting, bbq, live music and beer!
Training for these two rides...
I went out to the Veloway yesterday with my buddy Max and we did 6 laps in preparation for this ride. He took his nice Giant road bike, and I took out my Rensho with 50/16 gearing and did 18.6 mi in about 45 minutes. It was cloudy, but cool and slightly breezy, actually very nice riding weather. If you've never been out to the Veloway, I highly recommend it. Riding was really nice, there were a few families out and some leisure riders, but Max and I were the only ones tearing ass out there so we pretty much had free reign to take the corners hard and hold nothing back.
Who is going to both of these rides on track bikes with me??? Chris, let's do both!!!
Also, if you are an avid rider who has completed lengthy rides before (as I have not yet done a ride longer than 20-30 miles), if you have any gearing suggestions for making the trip with good energy efficiency, I'd love to hear them.
